The X-Series earmuffs, 3M's latest advancement in hearing conservation, bring together new technologies in comfort, design, and protection in this groundbreaking earmuff line. The X1A, a lightweight, low-profile earmuff, is designed for protection against low-level industrial noise and other loud sounds. It features an electrically insulated wire headband, often referred to as "dielectric".

The wire headband offers consistent pressure over prolonged wearing periods, while the earcup pivot points tilt for optimum comfort and efficiency. The earmuffs also feature replaceable ear cushions and foam liners (hygiene kit HYX1). With a Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) of 22 dB, the X-Series (over-the-head) headband version is electrically insulated, sometimes referred to as "dielectric". The metal components of the headband have been covered by non-conductive material for use in a low voltage electrical hazard (less than 440 V ac).

There are no applicable standards for testing ear muffs against electrical insulating properties, so the product has been evaluated at an external laboratory against a modified test method based on EN397:1995. During the assessment, the leakage current did not exceed 1.2mA when the external surface of the product made contact with an electrical source. The user must determine the overall suitability of this product for the intended application, taking into account any hazards other than noise for which this product is tested.

The NRR may overestimate the hearing protection provided during typical use, and 3M recommends reducing the NRR by 50% for estimating the amount of noise reduction provided.

The X-Series earmuffs feature a 22 dB NOISE REDUCTION RATING for low to moderate noise exposures. Advanced technologies, including new innovative foam earcup inserts and spacers, help improve attenuation along with new ear cushion foam technology for an effective acoustic seal and reliable protection.

The earmuffs are designed for COMFORTABLE wear, with wide, soft foam ear cushions and earcup tilting pivot points. The internal stainless steel wire in the headband helps maintain consistent force over an 8-hour period for EXTENDED COMFORT, and the twin headband design helps reduce heat buildup.

The ABS plastic cups create a rigid, high-strength and impact-resistant earmuff to handle tough environments, and the DIELECTRIC HEADBAND, with no exposed wires, helps provide protection from low voltage electrical hazards.

The earmuffs also feature REPLACEABLE CUSHIONS and inserts, helping to keep them clean with the 3M PELTOR HYX1 Hygiene Kit.
